Wednesday afternoon trip to gounds of artists' foundation

Named after its two resident artists, N. Michoutouchkine and A. Pilioko, this Oceanic art gallery, artists' studio and grounds is amazingly, wildly exotic, with Pacific bric-a-brac and artefacts, including ornate carvings and masks by the master craftsmen of southern Malekula.

The Pacific art world took note when word went out that Nicolai Michoutouchkine a French-Russian expatriate and long time Vanuatu resident died a couple days ago.  Yesterday he was cremated and today his partner in the Michoutouchkine-Pilioko Foundation, Aloi Pilioko left the island to take the ashes to their final home.

After saying all that... we found the grounds very quiet when we went out there today.  Of course, the gallery and studio were not accessable, but we walked much of the grounds.  The battery in the camera gave out, so photos were limited.  When the mozzies started nipping on me through the repellent...it was time to leave.  If the art world interests you... look further on line at
