In all his checking out the local arts/craft, Kit ran across an artisan who introduced herself as Rose. A native of the island of Pentecost, she was very gregarious and totally willing to discuss her craft. When we first saw her, she was braiding fibers into a flat plait. She explained how she soaked and stripped hibiscus branches to get the silky fibers she was braiding for the hats she made.
Kit wasn't interested in buying a hat, but the silky hibiscus fibers fascinated him. When asked, she was totally willing to sell him some fibers and a length of the plait she was braiding. She is also a weaver and has the traditional stuff that the other artisans from Pentecost show. So far, each woven bag that has piqued my interest has been done by someone from Pentecost.

What will Kit do with the items he got from Rose?
ReplyDeleteWho knows what he'll do with it. Mostly show and tell, probably
