A day with Starr

Starr having morning devotional with her little ones
Thursday morning found kj rolling out of bed early and headed south  to Tucson just as the sun was peaking over the house tops.  After an uneventful two plus hour drive, I arrived along with the earliest students.  Starr and her fellow teacher, Lauri, quickly gave me papers to grade, instructions on classroom activities with which I would be assisting and it was time for school to start.  Looks like Thursdays have the potential for being my weekly volunteer day as "teacher's helper" for my favorite teacher.

Hanging Out with My Mom

Mom busy at her computer space
I have made Tuesday afternoons my "hanging out with Mom" time.  She is currently doing a project of getting some of her "stories" entered into the computer. We kids bought her a laptop several years ago.  However, the computer is still a little intimidating to her, so she doesn't get on it unless there is someone around to coach her. It hasn't worked for Dad to be that coach, so I have been spending a few hours each week hanging out and just being moral support.  In the last two months she has gotten all her emails read and has written four chapters of her memoirs.  While she does her thing, I usually  have some project I've brought along to work on, tying quilts, catching up with some of my own email communications, or just reading a book.

Holiday in Tucson

Thursday night saw us headed south on Iinterstate 10 for a four day weekend with Konrad and Starr.

I spent Friday with Starr in her K-2 classroom, grading papers, giving spelling tests, answering questions, reading instruction for little ones when Starr was busy with another student.  I had fun and felt productive. Since Konrad had Friday-Monday off, he and his dad did some stuff around the house that either took two men to accomplish or needed a little input from the “old man” to complete.

Mornings were nice and cool until about 8:00 am when things started heating up in the desert.  It was nice to spend my morning quiet time out on the patio.  Durning that time and then from the window throughout the day, the hummingbirds entertained as they visited the feeder.

Except for Friday, I walked the multiple foot paths of their community each morning before the sun warmed things up too much.  Sometimes alone, but a couple times with the kids and Karabiner (the grand-dog).

It is so great to have at least some of my kids within a short commute.  I hope to have a repeat soon...especially with the commute being made by the Tucson party!
